A Brief on High Court Legal Services Committee
Tripura High Court Legal Services Committee is constituted under section 8-A of the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987 with an object to provide "access to justice for all", so that justice is not denied to citizens by reason of economic or other disabilities. In order to enable the citizens to avail the opportunities in respect of grant of free legal aid and other remedies, it is necessary that they are made aware of their rights. Legal aid is an essential part of the Administration of Justice. Access to justice initiatives and programs are designed to provide legal services to population that may otherwise have difficulty obtaining legal advice and representation. Without access to justice, people are not able to fully exercise their rights, challenge discrimination, or hold decision makers accountable for their actions. Thus "Access to Justices for all" is the motto of the Authority. The objective is to secure justice to the weaker sections of the society, particularly to the poor, downtrodden, socially backward, women, children, handicapped etc. Such steps are needed to be taken to ensure that nobody is deprived of an opportunity to seek justice merely for want of funds or lack of knowledge.
